​By combining the freedom of mixed media with elements of surrealism, these emerging talents breathe fresh, contemporary life into a traditional heritage craft.

Puteh Nasrin Binti Ishak

Founder & Batik Artisan, "Puteh Batik Lab"

​Puteh Nasrin is a contemporary batik artisan with 7 years of experience in the batik industry and is an alumni of the National Art Gallery’s Young Art Entrepreneur (YAE) program. She founded Puteh Batik Lab with a mission to bring traditional heritage art closer to the modern public through a more casual, simple, and relatable approach.

​By experimenting with various textile resist techniques from traditional canting and block printing to cold wax media, Puteh focuses on creating art pieces and textiles that tell stories of everyday life. Guided by the philosophy "Setiap Lakaran, Ada Kisahnya" (Every Strokes Has Its Story), she believes that batik is not just a rigid heritage to be preserved, but a living craft that constantly evolves with the times.

The mountain, then, remains a physical objective. But it is no longer the only one. This ascent is taking place through sorrow as much as through altitude. It is defined less by conquest than by endurance.
