ReFest 2023: Engage and Empower

AHA is a project by 3R Media, and supported by ArtFAS, Malaysia's largest grant for arts and culture initiatives under Yayasan Hasanah, to honour the tekat embroidery heritage in the country, while reimagining its place in today’s contemporary art scene.
What is AHA?
Rooted in the honouring of matrilineal knowledge and tradition, AHA centres and elevates tekat embroidery by spotlighting the master tekat artisans of Perak and the heritage they carry.
And through skills transfer from traditional tekat masters to contemporary artists, the programme encourages cross-fertilisation of ideas — blending time-honoured techniques with modern artistic expressions.
AHA invests in sustaining traditional tekat practices through mentorship, entrepreneurship, and public showcases, while opening space for new interpretations, ensuring tekat remains a valued, visible, and evolving art form.
Honouring matrilineal knowledge.
Sustaining traditional craft.
Reimagining tekat for today.
