Besides explaining why drawing stick figures is always a good start to those who are new to life drawing , let’s talk a little bit about what’s beyond the surface.
Life drawing is more than a technical exercise, it is a multifaceted practice that enriches both the artist and the model. The synergy between them creates a space where observation, emotion, creativity, and connection converge.
As the artist captures the model’s form, a silent dialogue occurs, and the relationship between model and artist is dynamic. The model’s movements/poses, and the artist’s response create a flow of energy that influences the drawing process and the artwork, hence, each session is unique.
Through life drawing, artists document the human condition, capturing moments in time that reflect cultural, social, and personal realities. This documentation contributes to the broader narrative of human history and experience.
In our session, we also explore identity and representation. We celebrate the diversity of human bodies, challenging conventional standards of beauty and representation. We learn to appreciate and depict different body types, ages, and identify, promoting inclusivity.
How our session works:
The session is a communal session. You don't have to be a professional. Should you have questions, please ask during the session. There will be a short briefing in the beginning and then you are free to explore your drawing abilities. We don't practice any critiquing sessions but should you want to ask for more directions, please feel free to ask during the session. The timed poses: 2x 2min 2x 5 min 2x 10 min 2x 15min 1x 20min 1x 30min
Note: This is not a masterclass.
