Raya Music & Malaysia: Marina Tan in Conversation with Ethnomusicologist Dr Raja Iskandar Raja Halid

Calling Malaysiana music geeks, history buffs, and anyone interested in Malaysia and its people! Join us for an afternoon on Raya Music & Malaysia, highlighting some of the connections between this genre of music and the socioeconomic history of our diverse nation.

This “guided tour” down memory lane will be hosted via a conversation between writer/arts practitioner Marina Tan and ethnomusicologist Associate Professor Dr Raja Iskandar Raja Halid, Dean of the Faculty of Creative Technology & Heritage, Universiti Malaysia Kelantan and renowned author. The session will be introduced by Sharmin Parameswaran, Curator of Temu House.

From video clips both eye-opening and nostalgic, to pointed questions and poignant observations, this tip-of-the-iceberg session hopes to uncover and share some of our sources of strength in the past, and (who knows?) spark inspiration for our progress into the future.
